Etched copper plates with patina
Created during the artist’s residency at the Glenfiddich whisky distillery in Scotland, this series of copper etchings draws inspiration from the whisky-making process—particularly the role of copper in the crafting of whisky stills. Echoing the landscapes of Scotland, the etchings feature a blue patina rust developed through printmaking techniques, evoking the natural weathering and erosion of the country’s rugged coastlines. Just as copper is transformed through distillation, here it undergoes etching and chemical reactions to capture the textures of the Scottish terrain—rock, ocean, and mineral. The vantage points in these works recall the romanticism of Caspar David Friedrich’s Wanderer above the Sea of Fog, inviting viewers to contemplate geological time and the enduring forces of nature, preserved in the etched lines and layered surfaces.
